Ah, kids....

Yesterday I was met with a pretty funny sight. I was upstairs, tidying, and when I came around the corner, I found Emma and Molly, poised at the top of our stairs, each of them seated on a large stuffed animal. Emma on a huge yellow duck, Molly on a great big golden retriever. Apparently they were planning on riding those animals, in a race, down our carpeted stairs to the bottom.

Needless to say, I quickly put a stop to it, after some fast talking about the dangers of such an enterprise. They did as I asked, but I could tell that they weren't entirely convinced.

Nevertheless, it tickled me to see that sight.

Parenting is tough a lot of days. It's made even more challenging for me by the fact that we have two very strong-willed, confident children. A lot of days I would certainly prefer to have obedient little robots, but in the end, I know that I'll be glad that I have two daughters who know their own minds, and how to communicate it. I just need to remind myself when I'm in the middle of trying to convince my two year old that it's too cold to wear shorts in November, or when I'm stopping the pair of them from careening down the stairs aboard two extra large stuffed animals.
